Reduce and Reuse at MailStop
Just like the Ashland community, your friendly team at MailStop are big fans of the environment, and we try to do our part to “keep it green” by reusing whenever and whatever we can. We welcome anyone to bring in structurally sound used boxes (please, no soggy edges or missing flaps!); we especially like unique shapes and sizes!
Please do inspect your boxes before bringing them to us! We no longer accept Amazon box donations (they are poor quality even when new), and we actually can't reuse boxes showing alcoholic beverage logos or carrier branding (e.g., FedEx, UPS, USPS), as this limits the shipping services that can be used.Besides boxes, we also reuse clean padded mailers (Amazon is o.k. here), bubble wrap, packing paper, and air pillows (NO packing peanuts of ANY kind, please! - we don't use them at Mail Stop). Don't worry if boxes have old shipping labels or stickers on them - those can be covered over, and it's kinder to the box to not try to remove them. There's no need to flatten your boxes, as it's easier to determine whether they're structurally sound if they're still taped up.
The following is SO important that we're going to say it again:
Please only bring clean materials for recycling—no dirty, torn or mushy boxes or envelopes.
We cannot take packing peanuts as we don't use them at Mail Stop (NOTE: they are accepted if bagged at Ashland's Recycling Center on Water Street).
Boxes, bubble wrap, even tape can be an additional charge at other stores -- but not when your shipping label is purchased at Mailstop! We'll take your gently-used materials off your hands (decluttering your garage!), organize and store them and utilize them for future shipments so that our customers save on materials and are only responsible for the price of postage.
Looking for a gently-used box but you're NOT shipping through us? We have an ever-changing variety of shapes and sizes that are for sale. Small used boxes are $2 each, medium boxes run from $3-$8, and super-sized are $10 and up. We also have a very small stock of never-been-used boxes (prices available upon request).
